Greystone House Farm
The farm is 96 hectares of organic land producing beef and lamb . Cereals are grown to feed the livestock. Several breeds of cattle are kept including Herefords, Aberdeen Angus, Belgium Blue Cross and Limousin.
Our sheep flock consists of Suffolk cross ewes (out of a North England Mule) Mule ewes and some Texel ewes, these are put to a Suffolk or Texel Ram. A North England Mule Ewe is a cross between a Swaledale ewe and a Blue faced Leicester Ram. They are an excellent breed and suit our lowland farm.
The Countryside Stewardship Scheme
This encourages farmers to improve the countryside and protect natural habitats. On our farm we have created wildlife strips and ponds, planted trees and hedgerows and created new footpaths. Most importantly visitors have access to the farm to see how the food is produced. Group visits can be arranged and we open at lambing time to the public.
Organic Farming
Our farm is registered with the Soil Association who set the standards
by which we farm. We do not use herbicides or pesticides and use
only farm yard manure which has been composted as fertiliser.
Animal welfare standards are high and routine use of medicines are
not allowed. This traditional approach to farming aims to prevent
disease by promoting health.
